AdvancTEK provides ultrasonic welding as one of its in-house secondary operations, joining molded thermoplastic components into finished and semi-finished assemblies. Also known as sonic welding, the process bonds plastic parts without adhesives, fasteners, or applied heat, which keeps assemblies clean and consistent across high production volumes.

What Is Ultrasonic Welding?

Ultrasonic welding uses high-frequency vibration to create frictional heat at the joint between two thermoplastic parts. A horn presses the components together and transmits the vibration, melting a thin layer of material at the interface. The parts fuse as they cool under pressure, forming a molecular bond. 

Because the method replaces glues and screws, it removes consumables from the assembly and produces repeatable results part after part. It works well with common molding resins such as polypropylene, polyethylene, and nylon.

Welding, Trimming, and Assembly on One Line

Ultrasonic welding rarely works on its own. AdvancTEK integrates it with trimming and assembly as connected steps in a single secondary operation. Sonic tooling can be adapted to slice or edge-trim excess flash and material before or after a joint is made, and both welding and trimming feed into broader part assembly. 

Loose molded components become a unified structure, excess material is removed, and the result is a clean, ready-to-use product. The same secondary operations also finish parts produced through thermoforming, and AdvancTEK pairs ultrasonic welding with heat staking when a design calls for mechanically bonding dissimilar materials.
